French security authorities say they thwarted a terrorist attack with the arrest Thursday morning of a suspected terrorist whose plans for an attack were in an advanced state.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve announces the arrest in a televised speech, saying an anti-terrorism operation was taking place as he spoke in Argenteuil near Paris.
The minister refers to a significant arrest of a Frenchman. The operation follows weeks intensive investigations, he says.
It includes the clearing of a residential building and a garage. Searches were still in progress, Cazeneuve says.
