Austria tells Greece to stem migration after Athens recalls envoy

Austria reacts coolly after Greece recalled its Vienna ambassador, by asking the southern European country to do its share to stem migration.

The ambassador was called back to Athens for consultations amid Greek concerns that strict new border policies in Austria and Balkan countries are locking in refugees and migrants in Greece.

"Austria can understand the nervousness in Greece, as pressure is mounting on Greece to contribute to curbing the flow of refugees," the Austrian Foreign Ministry says in a written statement.

The Greek ambassador could take the opportunity of her trip to inform her government about the challenges that major refugee host countries like Austria face, the ministry added.
