Alpe Adria Green presses charges against Slovenian govt. over razor fence

The Alpe Adria Green international network of environmental protection associations, based in Jesenice, Slovenia, has filed a criminal complaint with Slovenia's Office of the State Prosecutor General against the Slovenian government for putting up razor wire fences along the border with Croatia, Croatia's Eko Kvarner association, a member of the network, said in a statement on Sunday.

The complaint states that the putting up of the razor wire is a crime against nature and animals, that it threatens biodoversity globally and the sustainable use of natural resources as well as the wild flora and fauna and their habitats, notably endangered species and vulnerable migratory species.

By putting up the razor fence on the border with Croatia, the Slovenian government has breached international agreements and Slovenian laws, including on the protection of animals and the environment, as well as the constitution, Eko Kvarner said.

Alpe Adria Green will continue to fight with all legal means the morally unacceptable setting up of extremely dangerous wire fences on the Slovenian-Croatian border, the statement said.
