Over 9,500 migrants enter Croatia on Saturday

A total of 9,569 migrants entered Croatia between midnight and 9pm on Saturday, bringing the number of migrants who had entered the country since the outbreak of the migrant crisis in mid-September to 240,926, the Ministry of the Interior said on its website.

On Saturday evening 2,890 migrants were staying at the Opatovac reception centre in eastern Croatia and more were expected to come from Serbia.

After Hungary closed its border with Croatia, migrants are being transported to the border with Slovenia so that they can continue their journey to their desired destinations in western and northern Europe.

According to Slovenian media, over 7,000 migrants crossed the green border between Croatia and Slovenia at Rigonce on Saturday. They continued pouring into the country during the night between Saturday and Sunday, most of them, 2,500, entering at Rigonce, and a new train with 1,483 people was expected to arrive on Sunday, police said.

Nearly 60,000 migrants have passed through Slovenia in slightly over a week. About 7,7000 were staying at the reception centres in Brezice, Dobova and Rigonce on Sunday morning. After their registration, they will be sent to other reception centres across the country and to the border with Austria, police said.

The Slovenian police said on their website that Austria had received about 37,000 migrants and refugees since the migration route was diverted to Slovenia, mostly via the Sentilj border crossing.
