Romeo and Juliet ballet to be performed in Zagreb on April 20

In a year that marks the 400th anniversary since the death of English playwright William Shakespeare, on April 20 the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb will host a contemporary ballet rendition of one of his famous dramas, Romeo and Juliet.

Radio and Juliet, created in 2005 by Romanian ballet dancer and choreographer Edward Clug, is set to 11 songs by the English rock band Radiohead, most of them from the Kid A and OK Computer albums.

The role of Romeo will be played by Denis Matvienko, a principal dancer at the Mariinsky Theatre in Sankt Petersburg.

The ballet has been performed to date in Slovenia, Romania, South Korea, Singapore, Canada, Australia, the United States, Ukraine and Russia. Clug is currently Director of Ballet at the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor.
