Vice-President Biden to attend regional summit in Zagreb Wednesday

The U.S. Vice -President Joe Biden is expected to arrive in Zagreb on Wednesday for a Brdo-Brijuni summit gathering heads of state from countries in the area of the former Yugoslavia plus Albania.

Biden is the first U.S top official to visit Croatia during the term of of President Barack Obama.

Apart from Biden, also European Council President Donald Tusk and Austrian President Heinz Fischer will attend the Zagreb meeting.

"At the joint invitation of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, in their capacity as leaders of the Brdo-Brijuni Presidential Process, Vice President Joe Biden will participate as a special guest at the extraordinary Summit of the Brdo-Brijuni Presidential Process," the Office of Croatian President said on its web site.

Grabar-Kitarovic believes that Biden's attendance will show the United States' intention to be involved to a greater extent in the discussion on security issues and risks in Southeast Europe.
