Unemployment rate down for seven straight months

Croatia's registered unemployment rate in August was 13.1%, the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) said on Friday, adding that August was the seventh consecutive month in which unemployment fell.

Apart from going down 0.2 percentage points on the month, unemployment dropped by 2.1 percentage points on the year.

The decrease in unemployment was as expected, following figures released recently by the Employment Service which showed that a total of 213,340 people were jobless in Croatia at the end of August, which is 3,749 persons or 1.7% less than in July.

Compared with August 2015, the number of jobless at the end of this August was down 16.9% or 43,408 persons.

Figures released today at the HZZ website show that currently 210,575 persons are out of work, which is 2,700 fewer unemployed than at the end of August.
