UK donates three forklifts to Croatian Red Cross

The Croatian Red Cross (HCK) on Monday received a third forklift for the purposes of the winter refugee reception centre in Slavonski Brod.

The three forklifts, worth 750,000 kuna (100,000 euros) in total, were donated by the British government through the British Red Cross. The first two forklifts were delivered on 28 December 2015.

The vehicles will considerably facilitate the Red Cross's activities at the winter refugee reception centre in Slavonski Brod, HCK president Robert Markt said, thanking the British government and Red Cross for the donation.

Markt noted that Croatian citizens had donated 2 million kuna (262,000 euros) to help the HCK function in the ongoing refugee crisis without additional government support . "We certainly expect from the new government to define how this will function in the future," he said.

Since mid-September 581,543 refugees, fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, have passed through Croatia on their way to western and northern Europe.
