ourism Minister Gari Cappelli on Sunday attended a presentation of a project to reconstruct the Hoteli Plat hotel complex in Dubrovnik County, which the government is soon expected to declare a strategic investment project.
The investor in the Hoteli Plat complex project is the Hoteli Plat d.d. company. The project is one of 10 tourism projects on the government's list of investment projects.
Two projects on that list - the Punta Nova camping site and the Hotel Park in Rovinj - were declared projects of strategic interest in 2016.
Touring the reconstruction site today, Cappelli said that once renovated, the Hotel Plat would be a high-category hotel.
Dubrovnik County currently has hotel accommodation capacity of 22,000 beds, which is only 25% of the total capacity and that share should be increased, notably as regards four and five-star hotels, said Cappelli.
The Hoteli Plat complex currently consists of one hotel and seven villas of the three-star category and 236 accommodation units, while other facilities (hotels and pavilions) do not operate because they were destroyed in the 1990s war.
The reconstruction project, estimated at HRK 428 million, refers to the reconstruction of the complex and its upgrading to a five-star resort with some 550 accommodation units. The complex is expected to employ more than 400 people and the project is expected to be completed before the tourist season 2019.
The privatisation of the Hoteli Plat d.d. company was conducted in June 2015, when the majority stake owned by the state was sold to KHA Cetiri d.o.o.
