Ten candidates running for SDP leader

Ten members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have submitted their candidacies for party leader while 98 have submitted candidacies for SDP Presidency members and 431 for membership of the SDP Main Committee.

SDP members could officially announce their candidacies for SDP leader and members of the party's main bodies by midnight on Saturday.

The candidates for SDP president are Tonino Picula, Ranko Ostojic, Orsat Miljenic, Davor Bernardic, Domagoj Hajdukovic, Dusko Polovina, Gordana Sobol, Karolina Leakovic, Vesna Skulic and Kristijan Mohorovic.

For their candidacies to be valid, candidates for party posts must collect signatures of support from party members by October 31, the number of signatures depending on the post they are competing for.

Candidates for party president have to collect at least 1,000 signatures of support, those wishing to be elected to the party presidency need to collect 400 signatures and those wishing to enter the SDP Main Committee 50 signatures.

The new party president will be elected on November 19 in line with the principle "one member - one vote".
