State delegations lay wreaths at Mirogoj Cemetery ahead of Victory Day

Delegations of the Government, Parliament, President of the Republic and the City of Zagreb laid wreaths and lit candles at Zagreb's Mirogoj Cemetery on Thursday, ahead of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Croatian War Veterans Day, observed on August 5.

In this way we mark the magnificent Operation Storm and the Croatian army's victory in the Homeland War and pay our respects to those most deserving for the creation of the independent, sovereign and democratic Croatia -- Croatians killed while defending their country, Deputy Defence Minister Tomislav Ivic said.

Operation Storm, launched in the early hours of August 4, 1995, ended a four-year Serb insurgency in central and southern Croatia. The main celebration of the event will be held in Knin, the centre of the Serb rebellion, on Friday.
