Social workers thank PM-designate

Social workers thanked Prime Minister-designate Andrej Plenkovic on Saturday for recognising the importance of welfare in the protection of the most vulnerable groups of society, the Croatian Association of Social Workers and the Croatian Chamber of Social Workers said in a press release.

The new government will establish a ministry of demography, family, youth and social policy.

The statement said that poverty, the protection of human rights of socially vulnerable groups, the protection of families at risk and social justice were just a few of the issues dealt with by social workers and that it was imperative for the system to be independent.

The challenges ahead require an independent ministry to properly and competently facilitate change, development and dialogue, the statement said, adding that professionals in the field were at the new PM's disposal.
