A group of six migrants entered Slovenia from Croatia at about 3pm on Sunday, crossing the green border between the Kastel and Plovanija border crossing points in Istria, Slovenian police said.
Spokeswoman for the Koper Police Department Anita Leskovec said that the migrants had crossed the border where there was no wire fencing and that they all had applied for asylum in Slovenia.
The group includes four adults and two children and they are being identified, she added.
Ever since the closure of the Balkan migration route, Slovenia has banned so-called irregular entries, strictly applying the Schengen rules. However, it still allows migrants who manage to cross the border to request asylum.
