Silvano Hrelja re-elected HSU pensioners' party leader

Silvano Hrelja was re-elected head of the Croatian Pensioners' Party (HSU), by a majority vote at this party's convention in Zagreb on Friday.

After heading the HSU for two consecutive four-year terms, incumbent party leader, Hrelja, ran against two opponents in the party election and won the confidence of 348 of a total of 453 party delegates.

Upon his re-election, Hrelja told Hina that under his leadership HSU would continue to fight for pensioners' rights and for all those citizens stripped of their rights.

"Our focus is on the pension and health systems and welfare and everything else that is bothering our citizens," Hrelja said.

Asked to comment on the possible postponement of a price hike for supplementary health insurance that Health Minister Dario Nakic announced earlier in the day, following a petition by HSU with the support of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) youth branch, Hrelja said that he welcomed the fact that the government had heard them and that next week he would meet with the prime minister for talks.

"We want to preserve the public non-profit insurer so that citizens, regardless of their financial status, can enjoy the fundamental human right to health protection," Hrelja said.
