Serb party in talks with centre-left coalition

The Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) and most voters from the Serb minority are more inclined to support a centrist or centre-left coalition in forming a government, the party's vice-president Milorad Pupovac said on Monday, adding that they had already talked about this with the coalition led by the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

"Most of the voters of the Serb national minority and the SDSS are more inclined to a centre-left coalition, as was shown by these elections as well and we certainly have this in mind. As for (coalition) talks, we are ready to negotiate with other parties as well, for the sake of the country's political stability," Pupovac told Hina.

He stressed that the SDSS would talk only with those willing to talk with the SDSS and for now only centre-left parties have shown such an interest.

The SDSS ran in Constituency No. 12, designed for ethnic minorities, capturing all three seats in parliament apportioned for the Serb minority.

The SDP said last night they were counting on the support of representatives of ethnic minorities, noting that four of the eight minority representatives were members from the ranks of the SDP and its coalition partner, the Croatian People's Party (HNS).
