SDP rejects proposal for grand coalition

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) believes that the initiative for a broad tripartite alliance of the centre-left and centre-right coalitions and the Bridge reformist party is unfeasible at the moment, the party said on its Twitter account after a meeting on Saturday.

"The initiative for a broad tripartite alliance the Croatia Is Growing coalition, the Patriotic Coalition and Bridge in forming a parliamentary majority and a future government is unfeasible at the moment. We believe that there exist other feasible solutions for forming a parliamentary majority and government," the party said after a meeting of its main committee at which SDP leader Zoran Milanovic reported on the course of negotiations on the formation of government and received support as prime minister-designate.

The SDP main committee said it supported further negotiations with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)-led Patriotic Coalition and Bridge with a view to forming the new parliament and government.
