SDP official says Milanovic current and future PM

The Labour Minister in the caretaker government, Mirando Mrsic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), on Friday said that (SDP leader) Zoran Milanovic "is the current and future premier", when asked by the press whether it was possible for his party to support someone else for the PM-Designate and not Milanovic.

Asked whether the SDP might make a different decision from the one made by its coalition partners on refusing the Bridge party's proposal for a tripartite government, Mrsic said the SDP would go public with its decision after the Main Committee's meeting scheduled for Saturday.

In response to the question whether Milanovic would manage to secure 76 signatures of elected deputies in the 151-seat parliament for an SDP-led majority in the parliament and hence an SDP-run government, Mrsic answered "We'll see."

With regard to the possibility of a new parliamentary election, Mrsic said that judging from the current situation, this option would be the worst solution.

Asked to comment on a statement by Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Tomislav Karamarko alluding to the caretaker government's efforts to launch "a creeping coup d'état", the SDP official replied that it is Karamarko that should be asked about that.
