SDP member: Secretly recording meeting criminal offence

The president of the Sibenik branch of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and war volunteer, Franko Vidovic, on Thursday commented on a secret recording of a meeting between SDP leader Zoran Milanovic and war veterans' associations, saying that secretly recording a meeting like that was a criminal offence.

Vidovic made the statement in Gospic where he presented the People's Coalition candidates for the September 11 election.

He was the only one to comment on Milanovic's meeting with veterans' associations, held in Zagreb on Wednesday without media presence. A transcript of the meeting was nevertheless leaked to the press.

According to the transcript, Milanovic said that Serbia was a "handful of wretches" and that Bosnia and Herzegovina was a "country without any order," as well as that he didn't really care about the chant "For Homeland Ready."

As for the fact that the recording was made secretly, Vidovic said "Enough said."

Asked if the talks would have been conducted differently had it been known that they were recorded, Vidovic said that he did not think they would because Milanovic had offered reporters to stay at the talks.

"We conducted that meeting in good faith and I have no words to describe what they have done. I believe that the veteran population condemns this too," he said.

Vidovic added that Milanovic's statements were taken out of context and that he was "clearly protecting Croatian state interests."
