SDP chief says Sabor should decide on dissolution right now

Social Democrat (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic said on Friday after consultations in the office of President following the ouster of the Tihomir Oreskovic cabinet that Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) should resume a parliamentary meeting on Friday afternoon at which the 151-seat legislature should adopt a decision on its self-dissolution on 15 July.

"The dissolution of parliament is beyond question. We only need a decision stating that parliament should be dissolved on 15 July. As of that date deadlines start running for calling an early election," Milanovic told the press after the consultation with the president.

Milanovic holds that an appropriate date for the election could be 4 September after summer holidays,

Our position is that the parliament should be dissolved now, the Bridge party requests it to happen on 15 July, Milanovic said adding that 82 lawmakers in the current, eighth parliament had given signatures to the proposal for self-dissolution of the 151-seat Sabor.
