Ranko Ostojic to run for SDP president

Social Democratic Party (SDP) Vice President Ranko Ostojic has announced his candidacy for the new party leader after the incumbent Zoran Milanovic said on Monday he would not re-run for the SDP president.

Ostojic made his decision public on his Facebook account on Monday evening, while another of the four SDP vice presidents, Tonino Picula, said earlier in the day that he would decide on his possible candidacy for the post after consulting people in the field and seeing whether he enjoyed grassroots support.

In his post, Ostojic portrays Milanovic as "a great politician and statesman" who has clinched great victories for the SDP.

"We will address our mistakes, and we will fight," Ostojic wrote.
