President received delegation of Honorary Bleiburg Platoon

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Thursday received a delegation of the Honorary Bleiburg Platoon (PBV) who presented the president with a letter of commendation for the sponsorship over the event marking the 70th anniversary of the Bleiburg tragedy, the Office of the Croatian President said in a statement.

The meeting also focused on the plans for marking the 71st anniversary of Bleiburg, which will be held under the auspices of the Croatian parliament.

The president called for a peaceful and dignified commemoration of the Bleiburg victims.

The central commemoration marking the anniversary of Croats killed at Bleiburg field in Austria at the end of World War Two will be held on Saturday, May 14.

The annual commemoration will mark the 71st anniversary of the tribulations of fleeing Croatian soldiers and civilians who were handed over by allied forces to Tito's partisans at the end of the WW2. Thousands were killed by the Partisans without a trial in the Bleiburg field and on so-called death marches back to the then Yugoslavia.
