President, Parl. Speaker and PM hold meeting over govt crisis

Croatia's President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Monday morning convened a meeting with Parliament Speaker Zeljko Reiner and Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic, a source from the Office of the Croatian President told Hina declining to say anything more about the contents of the talks.

The top three officials must have discussed the ongoing government crisis, following the decision by PM Oreskovic last Friday to ask his two deputies: Tomislav Karamarko of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Bozo Petrov of the Bridge party to resign. Immediately after Oreskovic's request, the HDZ leadership stated that Oreskovic, who had been appointed as a non-partisan premier, was no longer supported by that party.

Those developments were triggered after the Bridge party insisted that Karamarko must step down over a scandal involving business ties between his wife Ana and MOL lobbyist Josip Petrovic, a friend of the Karamarkos, against a backdrop of the arbitration proceedings between Croatia and MOL over Croatia's INA.
