Police departments to be downsized from 20 to 5, says interior minister

Interior Minister Vlaho Orepic said on Thursday that a ministry reorganisation would reduce the number of county police departments from 20 to five to make the system more efficient and reduce crime.

The new police territorial organisation does not require new costs or hirings. The minister said a concrete proposal was expected to be drawn up by June 30, to be followed by a public discussion and a decision on the reorganisation expected to be adopted on September 1.

Orepic added that the reorganisation did not mean regionalisation but adapting to spatial needs.
