PM says govt functioning

Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic claimed on Monday that the "government is functioning" and that he hoped that reporters would not just focus on the current political situation but also on the results the government is achieving.

"The government is functioning. I am going to Paris today. I have a meeting with France's prime minister. We are going ahead, we are working. I hope that you won't just report on this political scene but results too," Oreskovic said and announced that the results of this year's first quarter would be available in the next few days.

"I think GDP will grow. The (International Monetary Fund) forecasted a growth of 1.8%, the European Commission, 1.9%. I think it will be above 2%, which will automatically reduce the deficit. Koncar and Croatia Osiguranje have been activated which will also reduce the deficit. That is all very positive for Croatia. I hope that we will focus on those topics a little too," Oreskovic told reporters following a special session of parliament.

Asked whether the tensions hampered his job, "No! As you can see for yourselves, I am working. I have remained an optimist and will do so until the end. That's my nature. I think that Mr Karamarko and Mr Petrov have some common goals and the common goal of us all is to improve the situation in Croatia and that it is better for citizens," he said.
