Petrov: We'll have the 15 deputies needed to have bills discussed under fast-track procedure

The Bridge party will have 14 signatures of elected members of Parliament by noon on Monday, Bridge leader Bozo Petrov said in an interview with Croatian Television on Sunday evening, noting that the party had set a goal of having a 15-member club of deputies in the parliament in two or three months' time, which would enable it to have its legislative proposals discussed under fast-track procedure.

"It is our goal to really start working after the first parliament session and before the first government session. This is an introduction to the reforms we have wanted to happen in Croatia," said Petrov.

Asked if Bridge would stick by its proposal to fine MPs who fail to attend parliamentary sessions, Petrov said that Bridge and its partners had agreed that the attendance of MPs was necessary at least on Fridays, when items that have been discussed are voted on.

Non-attendance on Fridays will be fined with HRK 500 per session, he added.

Speaking about amendments to the Distraint Act, Petrov said that the party had to give up its initial plan and that agreement had been reached to help families whose property was seized by giving them alternative accommodation until they started earning enough to be able to pay for their basic needs.

Under the amendments, three quarters of the salary will be exempt from seizure, said Petrov.
