Petrov says Patriotic Coalition given 24 hrs to rejoin negotiations

Bridge party leader Bozo Petrov said on Sunday, after negotiations with the Social Democratic Party-led (SDP) Croatia Is Growing coalition, that because of equality he would give the Croatian Democratic Union-led (HDZ) Patriotic Coalition 24 hours to reconsider and rejoin them in negotiations on government formation, while SDP president Zoran Milanovic said he would wait until tomorrow.

"The joint body of members of parliament and the National Council decided that, because of equality, just as we gave the Croatia Is Growing coalition a certain additional time... to reconsider, we would give another 24 hours to the Patriotic Coalition for the same reason. We hope they will accept the invitation. After all, it's their decision," Petrov told reporters.

Asked if it was agreed who would be prime minister, he said, "We won't answer that because talks are still under way, but as far as we are concerned, we in Bridge agreed on that."

The leaders of the parties in the Croatia Is Growing coalition, led by Milanovic, would not speak to the press after the meeting. Milanovic only said, "We are waiting until tomorrow."

The SDP said it would not comment today on Bridge's invitation to the HDZ to say until Monday if it wished to rejoin the negotiations, which it walked out of on Saturday evening.

This afternoon, Bridge invited the HDZ and the Patriotic Coalition to say by 4 pm tomorrow if they wish to be part of the process that has been launched, but without setting any new conditions which would change the document signed by Bridge and the SDP-led coalition yesterday.
