Petrov says both HDZ and SDP agree with MOST reform proposal

The Bridge (MOST) reformist party's leader, Bozo Petrov, said on Wednesday after talks with the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) that Bridge had held talks today with both the HDZ and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on the identical topics and that both parties agreed with reforms Bridge had proposed.

In his brief statement to the press, Petrov said the talks also focused on Bridge's vision of forming a reformist government consisting of representatives of the SDP, the HDZ and Bridge.

"The third thing we discussed was what will happen in parliament tomorrow and that is yet to be seen," Petrov told the press declining to either confirm or deny the information that Bridge had nominated its official Robert Podolnjak for the position of parliament speaker.

The Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic called the inaugural session of the new, eighth parliament for Thursday, December 3.

Parliament Speaker Josip Leko said on Tuesday that he expected the inaugural session of the new parliament to be held in an orderly manner and in accordance with the Constitution and the parliament's rule book, and that he would insist on those rules as had always done. Leko will chair the first convention of the eighth parliament on Thursday until the appointment of the new speaker, which will mark the inauguration of the new, eighth legislature.

"We have not had such a situation before in which parliament is being convened although a majority has not been formed," Leko said.

If the new parliament is not constituted, we will adjourn the session and reconvene it as soon as political stakeholders say that they have a majority required to form a government, Leko said yesterday.
