Petrov: Milanovic, Plenkovic tried to outdo one another in making promises

Bridge party leader Bozo Petrov has said that in their televised debate on Friday evening, Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Andrej Plenkovic tried to outdo one another in making promises but did not say anything new, calling on them to confront him in a debate anywhere they wanted.

"They flaunted the same promises they have been flaunting for the past 20 years, and whenever they came to power, they went back on those promises," Petrov told reporters in Metkovic, where he attended a marathon of native rowing vessels.

"I think it's ridiculous to speak about creating hundreds of thousands of jobs or boast about planning to reduce VAT when you know that VAT is a guarantee of budget stability," said Petrov.

"One of them kept silent about economic guidelines and the other gave entirely false data, but was very convincing in doing so."

"It's ridiculous to talk about the balance of payments as a success if you know that it does not include interest on loans taken by governments led by both the SDP and the HDZ," said Petrov.

"As for the growth of GDP in the last two quarters, it did not happen because of the work of the previous government but because of the situation around Croatia."

Asked which side Bridge would opt for for a possible post-election coalition, Petrov said that Bridge "isn't limited to only one side."

"We are open to both sides but on conditions that also include a change of people. However, I don't believe that they have matured as parties and that they will replace the people who have caused the situation Croatia is in today," said Petrov.

He said that it was shameful that the SDP-led People's Coalition had put on its slates Croatian Peasant Party member and former Metkovic mayor Stipe Gabric Jambo who, he said, was faced with more than 100 criminal reports and was indicted in two or three current trials.

"The SDP has decided to turn a blind eye on that," he said, calling on Plenkovic and Milanovic to confront him in a debate.
