Over 536,000 pass through Croatia during refugee crisis

From Thursday midnight until 2100 hrs Friday, 3,339 migrants entered Croatia, thus raising the number of refugees who have passed through Croatia since mid-September to 536,077, according to updated statistics released by the Croatian Interior Ministry on Friday evening.

A mere eight refugees were staying in the Slavonski Brod winter reception centre on Friday evening. The Ministry said that Croatia was prepared for a continued influx of Europe-bound refugees who have been fleeing conflict-ridden areas in Asia and Africa.

The number of refugees reaching the European Union in 2015 has exceeded one million. An estimated 3,600 were killed or went missing on route to Europe, the UNHCR and the International Organisation for Migrations (IOM) have recently stated.
