Oreskovic meets Bavarian business people

Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic met in Munich on Monday evening with leading Bavarian business people so as to encourage cooperation between Croatia and that German federal state.

"I am very pleased with the constructive atmosphere of the talks with representatives of the Bavarian business sector," Oreskovic said after a working dinner with his hosts.

"Our government is focused on restoring trust in institutions and on creating a positive investment climate," he said.

After a meeting between Oreskovic and Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer earlier in the day, it was stressed that Croatia would work on removing the main obstacles to foreign investments such as red tape, unstable tax regulations and an oversized public administration.

One of the topics discussed was the harmonisation of education systems, and discussions are under way to possibly introduce in Croatia the German system of vocational training, a dual system of parallel education in industries and vocational schools, oriented to practical work.

The meeting with Oreskovic at the Siemens main offices in Munich was attended by representatives of Siemens, Deutsche Bank, Heidelberg Cement, Deutsche Telekom and Commerzbank.

Before the meeting, Oreskovic met with representatives of the Croat community in Bavaria.
