Oreskovic declines comment on Milanovic's statement on "accidental PM-Designate"

Prime Minister-designate Tihomir Oreskovic on Friday declined to comment on a statement of caretaker Prime Minister and Social Democrat (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic that Oreskovic is "an accidental premier-designate", while this statement posted on Milanovic's Facebook account drew criticism from HDZ and HSS leaders Tomislav Karamarko and Branko Hrg.

"I haven't seen Milanovic's statement. I am now  the PM-Designate, and when the government is formed, I am confident that I will be the Prime Minister. I am ready to take over the responsibility in order to help Croatia and its citizens," Oreskovic told the press in Zagreb on Friday after his talks with Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin in the caretaker government.

Milanovic wrote on his Facebook account that "You can remember when I spoke about an accidental state, and now we have an accidental Prime Minister-Designate. I would not like to affront him (Oreskovic), but he really is an accidental Prime Minister-designate. Croatia ceased to be an accidental state, however, there is a danger of a relapse into the former condition or even something worse. Mr Oreskovic is not participating in the ongoing negotiations on the make-up of (the next) government." Milanovic described this as a bad thing.

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Tomislav Karamarko on Friday branded Milanovic's statement as malicious. Karamarko retorted that a lack of good results during his term showed that Milanovic was "an accidental premier".

Addressing reporters in the HDZ headquarters Karamarko said that Oreskovic had experience and expertise working in the business sector, while Milanovic had no knowledge about anything.

Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) leader Hrg, who was also in the HDZ headquarters, added ironically that Milanovic had already gained a reputation for his gibes.
