MP Branko Grcic of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) said on Thursday that the 2016 draft budget, at first glance, did not contain major changes on the revenues and expenditures sides in relation to the 2015 budget, and wondered how the government would save on household allowances.
"If you add EU funds to both the revenues and the expenditures side, which are generally neutral, the changes are minimal," Grcic, a deputy prime minister in the previous government, told reporters.
He said some new expenditures in the draft budget were compensated with savings in other budgetary items but that one could not see how the savings would actually be made.
"There are savings on welfare costs. We are really interested in seeing how the savings on household allowances will be made... Subsidies are being reduced, subsidies to the economy, which can additionally slow down the economy and economic growth," Grcic said.
