Minister, county prefects advocate dialogue on public administration reform

Public Administration Minister Dubravka Jurlina Alibegovic on Tuesday called on county representatives to cooperate and talk about the state and public administration reform, as well as local and regional self-government reform and the head of the association of Croatian counties, Sibenik-Knin County Prefect Goran Pauk, hailed her initiative expressing confident counties would be able to found common ground with this government and remain in their present form for a very long time.

"The ministry and the government are focused on public administration, state administration, local and regional self-government units. Our goal is to have an efficient public administration which will provide citizens and the economy with an efficient service. This is our strategic objective which we cannot achieve alone. Public administration reform is a comprehensive reform and we need your assistance," Jurlina said at a meeting of the association of Croatian counties, held in Zagreb.

Jurlina Alibegovic and Pauk set up a meeting at which they will define all important topics pertaining to administration reform. "We will define the topics very clearly and we will discuss with arguments all strategic objectives and individual measures. We will prepare analyses, versions and proposals and we will invite the academic community, trade unions and the media. Open dialogue aimed at improving public services is very important to us," Jurlina Alibegovic said.

Pauk said the association was not against reforms. "On the contrary, we have a position about it which will probably be acknowledged by all those who know what we are doing," Pauk said.
