Milanovic: Rhetoric in SDP intraparty campaign milder than in US

Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Zoran Milanovic on Tuesday commented on the vituperative communication between party members in the run-up for the election of the party's leadership and described this as "finishing school" compared with what is going on in the American presidential campaign.

"When you see what words they use, admittedly I still haven't heard any reference to Goebbels there , no-one has referred to Trump as Goebbels, so I'm ahead in that one, even though I truly do not measure up to Goebbels. He was a psychopath. I don't think I am and he was more capable in what he did than I am," Milanovic added ironically.

On Monday, Pedja Grbin, a member of the SDP main committee, said on Monday said that communication in the party election for a new party leader has "exceeded the usual, normal and acceptable," and that it is necessary to get back to the point and party politics. "It is absolutely unacceptable to slur other candidates in the party," Grbin admitted.

As for the appointment of war veterans' affairs minister, Milanovic said today that he did not consider the appointment of that minister to be the most important current political topic.

"I think that veterans are protected and they will continue to be protected and they are not threatened by anything. As such, it is not important who the veterans' minister will be. They should merge the ministry with some other ministry if they cannot agree to who the new minister should be, but that's not the most important issue," Milanovic said.
