Milanovic: Deficit decrease proves we did our job responsibly

The leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and former Prime Minister, Zoran Milanovic, has said that the latest figures showing a decrease in the budget deficit were proof that his government had worked well and responsibly.

"It is now evident that we worked well and left very good foundations for the continuation of growth. The deficit decrease is proof that we did our job responsibly and fought for the ordinary man. We will continue to fight for our policy. Only that way is it highly likely that Croatia can meet the criteria set by the European Commission as early as this year," Milanovic wrote on his Facebook profile.

Croatia's consolidated general government budget deficit in 2015 was HRK 10.7 billion or 3.2% of Gross Domestic Product, 2.3 percentage points down from 2014, while consolidated general government debt grew by 1.9%, the lowest rate since 2012, to HRK 289.7 billion or 86.7% of GDP, show figures presented at the national statistical office on Thursday.
