Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) leader Kreso Beljak said on Thursday that the party's main committee was discussing the proposal of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for a coalition for a snap parliamentary election, and that only if an overwhelming majority of the committee backed it, the HSS would enter that coalition.
In the event that no overwhelming majority embraces the SDP proposal, we will run in the election on our own, or in a coalition with some minor parties. We will not wait for the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) to make a proposal, as we always fared poorly when we waited," Beljak told the NOVA TV commercial broadcaster on Thursday evening.
The HSS main committee was in session in the town of Jastrebarsko to consider scenarios for its participation in the forthcoming early parliamentary vote.
The HSS was a junior partner of the HDZ-led coalition in the election for the outgoing eighth parliament. It has two seats in that legislature.
