Komadina: It's time for a democratic and modern SDP

The deputy leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and candidate for the post of party leader, Zlatko Komadina, said on Saturday that the time had come for a democratic and modern SDP that would be open and attractive to people.

"Before democratising and modernising society, we must first democratise and modernise ourselves. It is time for change, for a democratic and modern SDP," Komadina said in a statement. He said that the SDP should become "much more social democratic in substance and functioning than just in name" and that "only in that way can the SDP be victorious again."

He said that he would soon unveil to the party and the public "Programme Guidelines for a Better SDP", which include three key political goals for the future of the party and the country -- the SDP's programme and public policies as drivers of the economic and social development of Croatia, democratisation and decentralisation of the party, and bringing together all social democratic forces in the party and society to contribute to the country's progress.

Komadina said that democratisation of the SDP implied decentralisation and involvement of the membership in decision and policy making. "We will open up the party to the membership and public and launch dialogue with the Croatian society."

"I have decided to run for the SDP leader because together with the membership I want to change the SDP. The time for change has come. The members' confidence obliges me to make the SDP successful together. The SDP, that's all of us!" Komadina concluded.
