Karamarko welcomes DIP's quick reaction to suspected election fraud

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader and First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko said on his Facebook account on Monday evening that he welcomed the quick reaction of the State Election Commission (DIP) to his statement about a suspected election fraud in the November 8 parliamentary election.

"I am glad that DIP reacted quickly after I expressed concern about information about a possible election fraud in the last elections. The very fact that DIP did not dismiss the suspicion about that possibility says a lot," Karamarko said.

The HDZ chief said he believed that the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor (DORH) would do its job thoroughly and investigate who worked at the APIS IT company and how and why they got their job there, shed light on illogical elements in the processing of returns from some polling stations and inform the public of its findings.

DIP said on Monday that Karamarko's statement that there were indications that his party had been defrauded of some votes in the November 8 parliamentary vote gave rise to suspicion about the regularity of the election results and that DIP would therefore file a report against an unidentified perpetrator to DORH for possible election fraud.

The APIS company on Monday dismissed Karamarko's claims that it had complete control over ballot counting in the parliamentary election. "APIS does not count ballots nor does it compile reports on the work of voter committees but is in charge of the technical realisation of elections," the company said.
