First Deputy Prime Minister and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Tomislav Karamarko said in Sibenik on Friday that the HDZ had remained firm in its position on Ranko Ostojic, while the Bridge party had a different position and supported Ostojic as the chair of the parliamentary Domestic Policy and National Security Committee, but that Bridge members' statements about him showed that Bridge had the same opinion of Ostojic as the HDZ.
Addressing reporters before attending a ceremony marking the 26th anniversary of the HDZ branch in Sibenik-Knin County, Karamarko insisted that Ostojic (a member of the Social Democratic Party) was not a good candidate for that position, but that he was appointed owing to some conventions and good customs.
The HDZ agrees with its coalition partners on all important matters and has a very good political relationship with them, said the HDZ leader.
Answering questions about upcoming intra-party elections, Karamarko said that at the moment he was not thinking about them because he had a lot of work to do in the government so that it could start functioning at full pace.
As for his possible contenders in the intra-party elections, he said that he had always been in favour of an honest competition.
Commenting on the possible replacement of the head of the Security and Intelligence Agency (SOA), Karamarko said that Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic had not decided on the matter yet because he had taken some more time to analyse the situation.
Asked what if Oreskovic made a decision that would go against President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic's decision to request the SOA chief's replacement, Karamarko said that it would cause a blockade but that he did not expect such a situation.
