Karamarko and Petrov: Government's first move will be to draw up budget

The leaders of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Bridge parties and nominated deputy prime ministers, Tomislav Karamarko and Bozo Petrov respectively, said on Thursday that the first move by the new government, once approved by parliament, would be to draw up a budget.

"(Our first moves) will be to draw up a budget and create legislative prerequisites to facilitate investment, reduce public debt and take a series of measures to encourage economic development," Karamarko said in an interview with the HTV public television channel in the evening.

He said that the team that has been put together by Prime Minister-designate Tihomir Oreskovic "can do the best for Croatia."

Petrov said that the adoption of a government budget was "the first test".

Karamarko said that the cabinet ministers whom Oreskovic would present to parliament on Friday were young and competent. "They are qualified and reform-minded people," he said.

Karamarko will serve as First Deputy Prime Minister in the new government and will be in charge of home and foreign affairs and national security.
