Hrcak web site of scientific journals celebrates ten years of existence

The Hrcak central web site of Croatian scientific journals offers access to scientific publications via the Open Access Initiative and the number of journals listed on its site has far outgrown all expectations, heard a press conference held this past week on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the site's establishment.

Hrcak, a reference site that can be found at, lists over 400 journals and more than 11,000 published issues and provides access to more than 138,000 published articles, which makes it a unique site on the European scale, it was said.

The site has largely contributed to promoting Croatian scientific and expert journals. It was developed to facilitate access to digital versions of journals and encourage Croatian scientists and experts to publish their works online.

Hrcak was first introduced to the public on 7 February 2006 and the idea to open such a portal came from the Croatian Information and Documentation Society (HID).
