HNS deputy chief theatens his party might leave coalition over SDP behaviour

Varazdin County Prefect and deputy chief of the Croatian People's Party (HNS) Predrag Stromar has said he is outraged by the behaviour of the Social Democratic Party (SDP9 regarding talks on how to run together in the coming parliamentary election, threatening the HNS would run independently.

Stromar told Hina this was not a rebellion but that his interest was advocating for Croatia's north.

"This isn't a rebellion, this is exactly the same what I have been advocating so far -- advocating for Croatia's north- Politics is not a game for me, I see politics as a responsibility towards citizens. If we can't get the support and consent for key projects in Croatia's north from our partners, then I see no purpose of the coalition or a purpose of political partner relations," Stromar said.

"Also, coalition partners must deliver on their promises, if they can't then the coalition has no purpose," he added.

The HNS and the SDP are expected to hold another round of negotiations this afternoon and according to sources in the HNS, the party will not back down from its positions. Those in the party announcing that the HNS might run independently are louder by the day.
