A total of 219,419 Croatians were out of work at the end of June, which was the lowest level of joblessness since August 2008, however, other variables reflecting the state of affairs on the labour market, such as the number of employed persons and active population were more unfavourable compared to 2008, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) said on Tuesday.
At the end of June, there were 219,491 unemployed people in Croatia, which is 12,836 or 5.5% less than in May, according to figures released by the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) on Monday. May was the fifth consecutive month to register a drop in unemployment month on month. Furthermore, unemployment fell by 15.6% compared to June 2015.
However, the HGK warns that according to its estimates, this June 1.4 million Croats were employed while in June 2008 this statistics stood at 1.57 million. Also the active Croatian population was estimated at 1.62 million, while eight years ago, the active population stood at 1.797 million.
