HDZ secretary-general to be nominated as veterans minister

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) secretary-general Milijan Brkic is a candidate for the post of Minister of Veterans' Affairs, the party's leader and First Deputy Prime Minister, Tomislav Karamarko, announced on Monday evening.

"We have agreed today that we will nominate Mr Milijan Brkic, the HDZ's secretary general, as the Minister of Veterans' Affairs and I am pleased to announce that," Karamarko told a press conference in the northern city of Varazdin before a ceremony marking 26 years since the foundation of the HDZ's county branch.

Responding to questions from the press, Karamarko said that the decision had been made after he had held a lot of interviews with potential candidates for the position.
