Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) secretary-general Gordan Jandrokovic has expressed satisfaction with the support of the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) to HDZ leader Andrej Plenkovic as prime minister-designate, but has noted that the Bridge party is and will remain the HDZ's key strategic partner.
"Bridge is and will remain the HDZ's strategic partner. I am confident that we will negotiate with Bridge and successfully complete our negotiations and form a parliamentary majority and a stable government with a four-year term," Jandrokovic told reporters outside his party's offices.
He stressed that all were welcome to support Plenkovic's government.
Asked if he was surprised with the decision by HSS leader Kreso Beljak, who had strongly criticised the HDZ in the election campaign, Jandrokovic said that he would not speculate about the HSS's motives and than any support was welcome for the HDZ's efforts to collect more than the minimum 76 signatures of members of Parliament to form a parliamentary majority.
HSS leader Beljak said on Tuesday that his party's presidency had decided that the five HSS MPs would support Plenkovic as prime minister-designate without asking for anything in return.
Asked how talks with ethnic minorities were progressing, Jandrokovic said that HDZ official Davor Ivo Stier and caretaker Finance Minister Zdravko Maric met on Tuesday with the elected representatives of ethnic minorities, that the talks were progressing well, and that he hoped they would be completed to everyone's satisfaction.
