HDZ enthusiastic about preliminary election returns

The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has won 61 seats in the 151-seat parliament, according to preliminary results released by the State Electoral Commission at 10pm on Sunday based on returns from 36 percent of polling stations.

The announcement was received with great enthusiasm at the HDZ election headquarters, with the party's members and activists chanting "victory, victory".

HDZ leaders and members estimated that their party had won the election.

The DIP is expected to release more results around midnight.
