HDZ deputy chief says Plenkovic will have enough signatures

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) deputy chief Milijan Brkic said on Monday that HDZ president Andrej Plenkovic would have enough signatures for consultations with President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.

"He will most definitely have enough signatures," Brkic said outside the HDZ headquarters where negotiations with the Bridge party were expected to resume at 1500 hours.

Under the constitution, the president can entrust the candidate supported by an absolute majority of deputies in the 151-seat parliament with the task of PM-designate. Thus, the PM-Designate hopeful should corroborate his/her candidacy with at least 76 signatures of elected deputies.

The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) was the relative winner of the snap election, winning 61 seats.

Tourism Minister Anton Kliman also confirmed for the press that signatures for Plenkovic were being collected. He said he was confident Bridge MPs and deputies representing ethnic minorities would also give their signatures to support Plenkovic.
