HDZ chief rules out any new taxes

Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Tomislav Karamarko on Tuesday said that PM-Designate Tihomir Oreskovic and his interlocutors in Kitzbuehel agreed that a gap between the revenues and expenditures sides of the budget needs to be reduced by HRK 4.5 billion but without the introduction of new taxes.

"PM-Designate Oreskovic and his interlocutors in Kitzbuehel agreed that the imbalance between the revenue and expenditure side of the budget needs to be curtailed by HRK 4.5 billion however, without the introduction of new taxes," Karamarko said on his Facebook account.

He underscored that Oreskovic's attendance at a conference in the Austrian ski resort had been a significant change in relations with international business and financial circles. "Milanovic did not meet with anyone for four years nor did anyone meet with him. We have taken loans at the worst possible terms and paid the price of his arrogance," Karamarko said, thus accusing the outgoing Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic of a rising public debt.

Last week Oreskovic met with investors and bankers in Kitzbuehel, Austria and presented his plan to curb the public debt.
