HDZ, Bridge propose Tihomir Oreskovic as PM-designate

The Patriotic Coalition leader, Tomislav Karamarko, and Bridge party leader Bozo Petrov said on Wednesday that their joint candidate for Prime Minister-designate would be Tihomir Oreskovic, until now a member of the Pliva Croatia pharmaceutical company's supervisory board.

The two politicians said that they had not discussed the distribution of ministerial posts at today's meeting in Zagreb's Sheraton Hotel, that they expected the new government to be formed in a month and that a date for the inauguration of the parliament would be agreed soon.

Petrov said that he was satisfied that a non-partisan professional had been accepted as the Prime Minister-designate, and when asked how much time Oreskovic had had to decide if he would accept the candidacy, Petrov said that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) had contacted Oreskovic several months ago, offering him participation in a future government.

Petrov also confirmed that Oreskovic was proposed as PM-designate by the Patriotic Coalition led by the HDZ.

Oreskovic was born in Zagreb in 1966, graduated in chemistry at McMaster University in Canada and obtained an MBA in finance and information systems in 1991.

He began his career at the Eli Lilly drugs company in Canada in 1992, where he held various positions in financing and international business. Before leaving the company, he was a director for relations with the state administration and economic affairs.

Oreskovic continued his career in Canada at Novopharm, now a member of the Teva Group, as a vice president in charge of business development and specialty products as well as chief financial officer.

He joined Croatia's Pliva in 2009 as the CFO for East Europe. In 2010 he was appointed CFO for the Europe, Middle East, Israel and Africa region. In 2012 he was appointed management board chairman and ran Pliva's business in Southeast Europe.
