Grcic says outgoing gov't can be pleased with its performance

Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Branko Grcic said on Thursday that the outgoing government had done a great job in the second half of its term and could be pleased with its overall performance.

"The results of our work can be seen every day and will also be seen at the start of the term of the new government. One can always do better, but things have taken off in the last two years, particularly in the economic sector, as well as in the implementation of some of the reforms. I think that in the end we can be pleased with our term in office," Grcic told the press before the last session of the outgoing government.

When asked whom he would like to see as his successor as minister, Grcic said he did not have any particular wishes, but that it could be Ivana Maletic of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), who currently serves as a member of the European Parliament.

Grcic was also asked to comment on Prime Minister-designate Tihomir Oreskovic's trip to the Austrian ski resort of Kitzbuehel to meet for talks with foreign investors. "I expect the prime minister-designate to meet with all the relevant investors who buy Croatian bonds. ... This work should continue with road shows for the sale of Croatian bonds and that's normal practice," he added.

Grcic said that the prime minister-designate should show the investors how much Croatia was interested in selling its bonds under the most favourable terms possible and inform them about the reform and fiscal consolidation processes.

Oreskovic is currently in Kitzbuehel for a closed-door meeting with representatives of investors and banks and analysts, organised by Unicredit. He said he would discuss with them the national debt, which accounts for close to 90 per cent of GDP.
